It is named after the late Mississippi State football star and was established in 1977. The Hull Trophy has been in existence for seven years. All six of the previous winners (listed below), are or were NFL players. Elgton Jenkins, a Mississippi State student, was the winner last year. He has been a standout rookie for Green Bay Packers. The C Spire Conerly Trophy banquet will present the 2019 award at the Country Club of Jackson on Dec. 3. Reggie Collier, a former Southern Miss quarterback, is the featured speaker. Dorbeck stated that he was thrilled to have been chosen after he learned of the selection during practice Monday evening. “There are a lot great offensive linemen here in the state. It is an honor to be nominated. Dorbeck played three sports at St. Aloysius High, Vicksburg. He also played basketball and baseball. He was rated a two-star recruit and selected to participate in the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game. He was still considered a project as a college football player. As a freshman, he red-shirted. He said, “I haven’t always started, but I have always worked hard.” Jay Hopson, USM’s head coach, said: “We are just thrilled for Drake. We couldn’t feel more proud. He has been an outstanding player this year, and a great leader for our program. Drake is a young man who keeps improving every year. He has always been a great athlete and a huge size. “We believe he’s a next-level talent.” *** Previous Hull Trophy Winners (and their pro football team): 2013: Gabe Jackson (MSU) 2014: Laremy Tumil (Ole Miss) 2015: Fahn Coker (Ole Miss, drafted in San Francisco 49ers) 2016: Justin Senior, (MSU) 2016: Justin Senior, (MSU, drafted in Seattle Seahawks) 2017: Martinas Rankin, MSU) 2018: Elgton (MSU) and Green Bay Packers).
