Associated Press Judge wants new look at prison conditions before ruling

Mississippi Today reported earlier this year on the start of a lawsuit regarding conditions at East Mississippi Correctional Facility, a privately-run prison. According to Mississippi Today, the lawsuit claims that the Mississippi Department of Corrections has “deliberately ignored or failed” to address the “life-threatening conditions that continue” at the prison. It is managed by Management & Training Corp. from Centerville, Utah. According to the Associated Press, the Federal Judge overseeing Friday’s trial ordered that the prison be reexamined. According to the AP report William Barbour, U.S. district judge, wants experts from both parties to determine if conditions have improved. He requested that reports be filed by December with the possibility of a hearing in January.
