Drivers were warned Monday about the danger of severe cracking and movement in the Mississippi section of the parkway. Motorcyclists are particularly at risk from this damage. Officials believe the movement is caused by shrinkage of the soils beneath, which will only get worse as the drought continues. It is less severe in the Tennessee and Alabama sections.
