Coahoma school board won’t reveal reason for firing superintendent

Nathaniel Armistad (an attorney for the school board), confirmed to Mississippi Today via phone that Brooks-Keys was fired at Tuesday’s meeting. Armistad said John Mac Curlee will be replacing Brooks-Keys until further notice. Brooks-Keys was not fired and there were no long-term plans. In a telephone conversation with Mississippi Today, Patrick Campbell, the president of the school board, stated that Curlee is expected to remain in the position for at least one year. According to the Clarksdale Press Register, Brooks-Keys was suspended by the school board in January. Brooks-Keys was suspended for five days, but her suspension was later lifted, according to Armistad. Brooks-Keys was the first to be appointed superintendent of the district in the 2016-2017 schoolyear. The details of Tuesday’s meeting were not made public by the district staff.
