His political career began in 1998 with a failed campaign for Mississippi’s 4th Congressional District. Hosemann was previously a Democrat, before switching to the GOP. Hosemann was well-known for his television commercials during his 2007 campaign to become Secretary of State. The commercial featured an elderly woman talking about Hosemann’s accomplishments in office and then forgetting her name. The woman would encourage people to vote by mispronouncing Hosemann’s name, and he would correct her before continuing with the reminder. This format has been used by Hosemann’s advertising in the subsequent political seasons. Hosemann received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana in 1969. He received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1972. Hosemann is married Lynn L. Hosemann and they have three kids. He currently resides in Jackson and is a partner at Phelps Dunbar LLP.
