Democrat Espy touts raising $12M, outgunning GOP incumbent Sen Hyde-Smith and McDaniel

According to preliminary campaign finance reports filed Monday, Espy, who is a former congressman, and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, raised $1.17 Million between July 1st and Sept. 30. Hyde-Smith, who was elected to replace retired Senator Thad Cochran in April’s Senate term, raised $1.08million in that same period. McDaniel raised $205,000 during the third quarter. Tobey Bartee, a lesser-known Democrat, did not file a financial report with the Federal Election Commission. Although Espy made more cash than Hyde Smith in the third quarter of 2018, he still has less cash than Hyde Smith, who has received large donations from Washington, D.C. political action committees. Hyde-Smith had just $1 million cash in hand while McDaniel had $172,000 cash. Monday night was not available for the exact amount Espy had on hand.
