Former Mississippi corrections officer faces up to 10 years in excessive force case

Sharalyn Mcclain, 28 is charged with aiding or abetting others to commit the attack. McClain is accused of using a dangerous weapon to attack others, a “shoe with a foot in its sole.” She faces a maximum sentence in prison of 10 years. The identity of the injured prisoner was not released. The alleged assault took place at the Rankin County prison last month. Mississippi Today was informed by the Mississippi Department of Corrections that it aggressively investigates misconduct claims. Commissioner Pelicia Hal said that the Mississippi Department of Corrections had zero tolerance for the misconduct alleged in the indictment. “During my administration, we have worked with other agencies and will continue to do so to ensure that misconduct allegations are investigated.” We expect our officers to uphold high standards and will continue to refer matters to the FBI.
