The Mississippi governor is the head the Mississippi’s executive branch. The governor is responsible for enforcing state laws and serving as commander-in-chief of state’s military forces. The governor has the power to approve, veto or convene bills passed by Mississippi Legislature. Except in cases of treason and impeachment, the governor has sole authority to issue pardons or reprieves. The Mississippi governor also appoints members of the Institutions of Higher Learning Board of Trustees. Tate Reeves is the Republican candidate for governor. Jim Hood is the Democrat candidate for governor.
