The viability of a candidate’s candidacy depends on how much money he raises during the first four months. The latest figures for the first four months 2019 fundraising were released Friday. Candidates have less than three months to go before the August primary. This is where one candidate will be elected from each party to advance to the November general election. Former governor Former Gov. Ronnie Musgrove served as governor between 2000 and 2004. He lost his reelection campaign to Haley Barbour 2003. Musgrove stated that the more money someone raises, the better the chance of him winning. On Friday, all the other gubernatorial hopefuls reported modest fundraising numbers. Velesha Williams, a former administrator at Jackson State University who raised $18,000 but has no cash, was the next closest Democratic primary candidate to Hood. Robert Shuler Smith, Hinds County District Attorney, raised $11,000 and has $300 cash in his pocket. Robert Foster, R-Hernando is the only Republican in the race. He raised $73,000 over the first four months and has $18,900 cash in his pocket.
