Kemper County power plant refunds completed

Bill Kelly, of Topp McWhorter Harvey in Hattiesburg, stated to the Mississippi Public Service Commission that the utility had fulfilled its refund order. He stated that refunds had been processed by December 4. Kelly stated that checks that haven’t been cashed come mainly from customers who have moved away or closed their accounts. Customers had the option to take a credit off their monthly electric bill. Kelly stated that Mississippi Power will keep any refunds not claimed within five years. The money will be returned to the state treasurer’s unclaimed property unit if it is not collected. The Mississippi Supreme Court ordered the $377 million in refunds for Mississippi Power’s 186,000 customers. It ruled that certain rate increases, imposed between April 2013- July 2015 to cover costs related to the Kemper County plant, were illegal._x000D
