Knight Foundation boosts Mississippi Today fundraising

The foundation will match individual donations up to $1,000 between now and January 19. You can make a donation here. Each participating news organization will receive a $25,000 match from the foundation during this time. Monday’s announcement of Knight News Match announced the newsrooms that were selected for participation in the program. Knight granted Mississippi Today a grant in the spring to support the launch and operation of the digital-only, nonpartisan news site that covers politics, government, and public policy issues in Mississippi. Quality journalism is important. It’s a strong defense against fake news, which has exploded in the last year. And it can help rebuild trust in society’s core institutions,” Jennifer Preston, Knight Foundation vice president for journalism, stated in a post on their website. Mississippi Today was launched in March to cover state and local government affairs, community issues, and education, health and economic development. It also covers Mississippi’s social and cultural culture. Our 11 reporters strive to provide high-quality reporting on important issues throughout the state in order to make a difference and increase citizen awareness and civic engagement. Mississippi Today has reported on a variety of important stories in the nine months since its launch. News stories from Mississippi Today are freely shared and regularly picked up by media outlets across the state. Fred Anklam Jr. of Knight’s matching gifts program, said that this opportunity is timely because many people make final charitable giving decisions in the last weeks of the year. Anklam stated that this fundraising initiative was a rare opportunity for donations to go twice as far in support of Mississippi Today’s mission. Visit our donation page to support Mississippi Today. Donations can be mailed to Mississippi Today at 750 Woodlands Parkway Suite 100 Ridgeland MS 39157.
