This episode of Mississippi Stories features Marshall Ramsey, Mississippi Today’s Editor-at-Large, talking to Neil Woodall, Jr., about his recovery from taking opioid pain pills. Woodall was a successful student athlete at Millsaps College. He was a Millsaps College student athlete who didn’t realize how his life would change after a hunting accident. Woodall was shot in the chest and face. He had to recover from his injuries. The recovery process included opioid pain pills. He discovered that opioid pain pills helped him to overcome fear and low self-esteem. Soon, the same substance that had helped him ease his pain started causing it.
