That year will remain in our collective memories for many years to come. This was the year the COVID-19 pandemic started, and many things have happened since then. The tragic death of a Mississippi teacher in the first week of school was one of our most popular stories. Many people were confused by this uncertain time. Do we wear masks around our family? How do we clean everything? How long and when should we quarantine? When will toilet paper come back in stock? Mississippi Today’s great people decided that continuing coverage of COVID-19 would help our readers. This could include tracking the data, sending out text alerts, and creating a comprehensive vaccine guide for the next year. The COVID-19 pandemic was covered by Mississippi Today, which provided our readers with detailed information from a trusted source. In 2020, another big story was the arrest of the former head of Mississippi’s welfare agency for embezzling millions intended to assist poor Mississippians. Anna Wolfe, our investigative reporter on welfare continues to cover the story. She breaks down legal jargon and shows how it affects those MDHS is meant to help. Many of these stories continue to be covered. Our work is important because we can continue to cover ongoing issues in the state and hold public officials accountable.
