New Dude’ highlights opening weekend of DI baseball

We’re not talking here about J.T. Ginn, a Brandon-born right-handed pitching prospect, turned down $2.4million from the Los Angeles Dodger in order to pitch for the Bulldogs. The sparkling, $67million facility that Ginn will likely pitch in the next three seasons is the re-built Dudy Noble Field/Polk-Dement Stadium. The stadium boasts every bell and whistle you could want in a college baseball stadium. It has three stadium clubs, 20 luxurious suites, outfield lounges, new two-tiered grandstand with a capacity of over 15,000 and 12 lofts (rent condos). John Cohen, the athletic director, said that overall, he believes we will have the best facility for college baseball. Cohen was a former State baseball player and coach. State hosts Youngstown State in a three-game series. Saturday’s game will be at 4 p.m. and Saturday’s at 2 p.m. Ginn will start the schedule. Sunday will be at noon. The Friday game will be preceded by the dedication of the statues of Rafael Palmeiro and Will Clark. A Ron Polk Ring of Honor will also be dedicated to Clark, Palmeiro Jeff Brantley and Dudy Noble. All three college baseball polls have Southern Miss, Ole Miss, and State ranked nationally. Southern Miss will play Purdue in Hattiesburg’s three-game series (4 p.m. Friday; 4 p.m. on Saturday; and 1 p.m. Sunday). Sunday.) Two NCAA Tournament teams will be featured in the series, one from last year. Ole Miss will host Wright State in a three-game series that begins at 4 p.m. Friday and ends at noon on Saturday and Sunday. Jackson State will open the season by hosting Boston College for a four-game series. It will host a 6 p.m. Friday doubleheader, a 1:05 Saturday doubleheader, and an 11 a.m. game on Sunday.
