No. No. Vic Schaefer was overcome with fear when he found out that Bulldogs’ best outside shooter, Australian Chloe Bibby had suffered a knee injury. Although the nature of the injury to Bibby’s left knee is not known, Schaefer stated early Friday that Bibby would be having surgery soon. Schaefer spoke out about Bibby, who scored 12.6 points per game in 17-1 Bulldogs games. Bibby was the leader of the team with 36 3-pointers and shot 45 percent from beyond. For a 3-point shooter, forty percent is excellent. State had lost three of its top 3-point shooters last year, when it reached the NCAA championship for the second year in a row. Schaefer stated that “it’s still to be determined” how State will handle Bibby’s death. Bre’Amber Scott (5-foot-11 sophomore) immediately replaced Bibby Thursday evening and scored 11 points from the bench. Schaefer expressed pride in Scott. “She played well in big, big games,” Schaefer said of Scott. But, who will replace her important minutes on the bench if Scott is promoted? He said, “We’re going have to step in with some really young children.” I don’t have any seniors or juniors who are willing to step in. We will have to rely on a freshman or a transfer to take over. This will be an opportunity for some young players. “We’re going to make it work; we’ll figure out the solution.” And Bibby? Schaefer stated, “I saw her today.” She cried. She said, “Coach, I’m done crying.” “I’m ready to get it done and get on the rehab.” This season won’t be her last. *** Pullman (Wash.) and Washington State are 2,236 mi from Brandon in Rankin Country. The Washington State Cougars are hopeful that Mississippi lightning will strike twice in the Pacific Northwest. Will Rogers, the current quarterback at Brandon State, was offered the position of quarterback for the Class 2020 just weeks after Brandon’s Gardner Minshew became a Cinderella story in college football. Brandon coach Tyler Peterson stated that Steve Spurrier, Jr., Washington State’s offensive assistant coach, made the offer. Rogers, a junior at 6’2″ and 180 lbs, threw for 3,009 yard last season. He completed 60 percent of his passes, which resulted in 23 touchdowns instead of 12 interceptions. Rogers has been a 2-year starter and has never missed a play. Peterson stated that Mississippi State, Southern Miss, and Tulane are some of the other schools currently seeking Rogers. *** Catchers and pitchers will report to Major League spring training February 12-13.
