“We are trying to reach an agreement upon a global plea that incorporates his two unindicted case,” stated Steven Kilgore, District Attorney. He was referring to the charges that stemmed from the alleged attempt to run over Kizzetta McClendon with a Forest car. He will then indicate whether he accepts a plea deal or goes to trial. Kilgore said that Boyd’s bond was not revoked because Boyd had a “hold” on him in jail. Kilgore stated that a “hold” placed on an inmate is an internal designation made by the jail for the sheriff to make contact with before the individual is freed. After allegedly shooting McClendon at Morton in March 2020, Boyd was charged with aggravated assault domestic abuse. McClendon claims that she was repeatedly attacked over the course of the year and a quarter following the shooting. Boyd is alleged to have tried to run McClendon down with a car. According to police records, Boyd raped McClendon in a grocery store parking garage months later. Boyd was released on bail by a municipal judge after he had committed all three violent crimes. He is allowed to walk free despite the fact that the Mississippi Constitution requires that judges revoke bonds if a person commits a felony while being held on bond for another felony. In January, Kilgore told Mississippi Today that he would file a motion to cancel Boyd’s $150,000 bond. But, when he discovered Boyd was on hold, he didn’t. Kilgore stated that he made sure Boyd was not going to be absent before the court term.
