Poll finds Mississippi Democrats more enthusiastic than Republicans for November election

According to the poll respondents who identify themselves as “strong” Republicans and Democrats “are energized for the November general election.” However, the pollster noted that Democrats hold a significant advantage in voter enthusiasm. The poll was conducted from Sept. 9-14. This poll comes after a contentious Republican primary election in which the eventual loser, Bill Waller Jr., refused endorsement of the winner, Lt. Governor. Tate Reeves. A margin of error less than 4 percent was found in the poll of 606 voters. This is the ninth quarterly survey by Millsaps, Chism Strategies. Chism did some contract work for Jim Hood, the Democratic nominee for governor. The poll did not show any head-to-head matches. The poll was weighted so that it reflected the expected demographics for the forthcoming election, with 33% of respondents being from Mississippi and 65% being white. The saving grace for Republicans may be that their leaners accounted for 8 percentage points more respondents than the Democratic leaners. Nearly 20 percent of respondents were independents. Based on the poll, voter enthusiasm was higher than in previous elections. 66% of people who identified themselves as strong Democrats were extremely or somewhat enthusiastic, compared to 62% of strong Republicans. Another indicator that the state is moving in the right direction is the 8 percent drop in confidence to 32.5 percent compared with 37.4 who think it is going in the wrong direction. Millsaps/Chism Strategies found that the right direction was the lowest among the nine points. When asked about their state’s region, the percentage of people who think the state is moving in the right direction increased to almost 40 percent. Other results:
