President Donald Trump endorses Tate Reeves ahead of November governor’s race

Trump tweeted, “Mississippi. There is a very important election for Governor November 5th.” “I need you all to get out and vote for @TateReeves, our great Republican nominee. Tate is tough on Illegal Migration and strong on Crime… He loves our Military, and supports our Vets! Democrat Jim Hood is anti-Trump, pro-Crooked Hillary and will not give us his vote. Vote Tate Reeves for Governor on November 5. He has my complete and total endorsement!” Mississippi, there’s a very important election for governor on November 5. Please vote for @TateReeves, the Great Republican nominee. Tate is tough on Illegal Migration and strong on Crime. He will also protect your Second Amendment . Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump), October 2, 2019, The president’s endorsement comes before the Nov. 5 general elections race between Reeves & Hood for the governorship — one of three gubernatorial seats in the country this fall along with Louisiana and Kentucky. As observers believe that Democrats have the chance of winning in all three Southern states, they will be attracting national attention. Reeves, who has tweeted about Trump more than 50 times this year, has been hard at work to partner himself with Trump on television and in digital ads. Reeves tweeted his appreciation Wednesday night after the endorsement. Reeves tweeted, “Thank you Mr. President,” after the endorsement. We must stand together for our great state’s future.” Political observers predict that Trump will visit Mississippi to stump in Reeves shortly before the November election. Trump’s rallies across the country for Republican candidates have been a hallmark feature of his presidency. Trump has not yet announced a Mississippi stump or Louisiana stump. However, he did visit Kentucky in August to support Matt Bevin, the Republican governor of Kentucky who is up for reelection. Trump was in Mississippi three times to campaign for U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde Smith. Gov. Phil Bryant, who is a self-described “close friend of the president,” spoke at a GOP unity luncheon about the importance of Trump’s endorsement for 2019 Republican candidates in ruby Red Mississippi. Bryant stated that they would be reaching out to President Trump on September 9. Bryant said that while he has many jobs, he hopes there will be a spot available somewhere in the calendar before November. I hope and intend to welcome him when he comes here to campaign for Republicans.” We will closely analyze the effects of Trump’s visit, and whether Reeves will get the “Trump bump,” as it has been called. After Trump admitted asking the Ukrainian president for information about former Vice President Joe Biden who is running for the Democratic nomination, the president now faces an impeachment investigation in the U.S. House of Representatives. According to Nathan Shrader of Millsaps College’s Department of Government and Politics, “I think there are very few things which could galvanize and inspire the Trump base of Mississippi voters to the extent that this could.” Shrader said last week. “An active investigation into impeachment that is so close to the November election and just before the presidential primaries could ignite the Trump base and make them more open to a message from the Mississippi Republican Party when he eventually steps off Air Force One in Mississippi.”_x000D
