The Saints are Mississippi’s favorite team due to their close proximity and the many Mississippi connections they have made over the years. They have trained in Mississippi in Hattiesburg as well as Jackson. Deuce McAllister and Archie Manning were some of their greatest stars. Native Mississippians are some of their biggest stars. I was raised in Hattiesburg, about 100 miles from New Orleans. In 1967, it was unbelievable that we would have an NFL team in our community. We couldn’t wait for them to come visit us. Here is my memory of the Saints’ first ever regular season game against the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 6, 1967.
