Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves, former chief justice of the state Supreme Court in Jackson, and Robert Foster of DeSoto will debate on a closed-door set for 60 minutes. Waller and Foster participated in previous debates this year, but Tuesday will be the first time that Reeves will also participate, as he is considered the front-runner for the Aug. 6 primary. WJTV’s news team will question the candidates. Parker Briden, a spokesperson for Reeves said that he was looking forward to the debate and thanked Nexstar and other broadcasters for airing the event. Every campaign is a marathon, and Waller believes this debate is just as important as the Watermelon Festival and Old Fashioned Day, both in Mize and Hurley. Waller stated that he was looking forward to the debate and thanked Nexstar and other broadcasters for airing it. Foster also called it “an important evening for our campaign,” and said he would highlight tax reform and educational reform. “This debate will allow us to show the public our positions on important issues facing Mississippians. It will also reveal to the public who has a plan to help and who isn’t. The debate will also be broadcast on several Nexstar-owned television stations in Hattiesburg and Mississippi, as well as on Mississippi Public Radio. However, Nexstar stations are currently not being carried by AT&T providers like U-verse or Direct TV due to a contractual dispute. WJTV will host the debate at 7 p.m. Mississippi Today will host a debate party at 6:30 p.m. at Sal & Mookie’s (565 Taylor St.), in Jackson. Following the debate, Larrison Campbell (from Mississippi Today) and Adam Ganucheau (from Mississippi Today) will be available for discussion.
