The state’s top official in health spoke out about COVID-19 and advised people to avoid Christmas and other holidays this week, as COVID-19-related cases continue to rise and hospital ICU space continues shrinking. In a press conference, Dr. Thomas Dobbs, State Health Officer, stated Tuesday that the virus is “very bad” and would only get worse. “Holidays can be a weak point for us. We allow transmission to happen that doesn’t need to be.” Dobbs spent some time reading information about Monday’s deaths during the press conference. “Eighty-four years old white male. Sixty-seven-year-old Black male. Dobbs stated that a white male of fifty-one years old was also present. “… These people would be there for Christmas next year, in large part. These people don’t have to be dead. These people could live if we all did more to prevent COVID-19 spreading. The state reported 4,490 deaths and 197,691 confirmed COVID-19 cases. The state also reported 2,191 COVID-19 new cases to go with the 79 deaths.
