The Legislature has been working with EdBuild from New Jersey, who will make preliminary recommendations to make the formula more student-based by the end. Rebecca Sibilia, EdBuild CEO, pointed out states with low per-pupil costs. Then, she added weights based upon each student to the number to arrive at the final amount per student. Republican leaders claim that the current state formula is too generous with money going to the administration. Any revisions would only be to redirect more money to the classroom. Mississippians can send ideas and input regarding the Mississippi Adequate Education Program and potential revisions to schoolfinance@ls.ms.gov. Public meetings will be held by the Legislature and EdBuild. Dates have yet to be announced.
