Cecil McCrory withdraws guilty plea in Corrections Department bribery case

U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate has set McCrory’s sentencing for Dec. 21. The judge will decide if the plea withdrawal is allowed. Attorney Carlos Tanner claims McCrory was given ineffective counsel by his first attorney when he entered the guilty sentence in February 2015 to one count bribery. This carries a maximum sentence that can be up to 20 years imprisonment. Tanner stated in the motion that McCrory entered the guilty plea to one count of bribery by Mike Hurst, then Assistant U.S. attorney. Hurst was the prosecutor in the Epps’ corruption case.
