CLARION LIDGER: A Gulfport advocate and professor is suing HuffPost for defamation in relation to a September 2018 article about U.S Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s time at Georgetown Prep School. The lawsuit against HuffPost’s former journalist Ashley Feinberg was filed in U.S. District Court, Gulfport on Wednesday. HuffPost and Feinberg falsely claimed that they conspired to purchase and deliver cocaine at Georgetown Prep. This led to the April 1984 death, Douglas Kennedy’s brother, and son of late U.S. attorney General and senator Robert F. Kennedy. The lawsuit stated that the statements were “not only false and defamatory but also outrageous” and were published by the defendants knowing of their falsity or with reckless disregard of truth in order to create a salacious story to drive traffic to HuffPost’s website. The complete article by Jimmie E.Gates and Mississippi Clarion Ledger can be found here. Erik Wemple, Washington Post media critic, was also interested in the lawsuit. HuffPost claimed that Georgetown Prep’s goal was to provide “general characterizations” of party culture. This raises the obvious question: Why did HuffPost publish details about a drug deal at a Florida hotel involving an unnamed 28-year old man? According to the complaint, HuffPost was trying to establish a “nexus” between David Kennedy’s passing and Brett Kavanaugh being nominated for Supreme Court._x000D
