Warren Strain, spokesperson for the public safety department, said that the department is currently working with MorphoTrust USA to implement the system. Strain explained that the “automated processing” is a part of the Driver Service Bureau’s process. It receives information from courts regarding citations, updates driver records, and determines driving sanction requirements. According to the state’s contract site, MorphoTrust USA has a 10-year agreement with the department for $22,881,575 drivers’ license modernization. According to the Department, it spent approximately $2,200 on mail and postage for sending out the letters. MorphoTrust USA was contracted to provide public safety services such as equipment, software, installation, support and maintenance for the implementation of the Driver License System. All questions were referred to DPS by MorphoTrust USA. This week, lawyers across the state began to receive calls from clients who had had their DUI charges dropped. They told them that they had received letters in January stating that their licenses would not be suspended. There are many reasons why DUI charges could be dismissed, including insufficient evidence or lack of witnesses. Strain didn’t immediately answer questions regarding how many letters were accidentally sent and how the department will inform recipients. Public-safety asks anyone who received letters between Dec. 11th and Dec. 19, to contact the Driver Records Division immediately at (601) 987-1224. Strain stated that the Department would be sending clarification information by mail to customers. Strain stated that the Department regrets any inconvenience caused by this error._x000D
