Election challenge filed in appellate court race

Judge Ceola James currently serves on Court of Appeals. She filed today an election contest in Warren County Circuit Court following her loss to Latrice W. Brooks, a Lexington municipal court judge. Unofficial results show that Westbrooks won 57 percent of the vote, while James received 43 percent. James claims that Westbrooks aligned with Democratic Congressman Bennie Thomson, which James alleges violates state rules that require judicial campaigns to be nonpartisan. James claims that Westbrooks attended several events with Thompson, and included Thompson’s photograph on her campaign materials. Mississippi Supreme Court named Senior Status Judge Stephen B. Simpson, Gulfport, as the special judge to oversee the case._x000D
