Allen, who pleaded guilty to the charges, was released on $50,000 bail following his February 26th indictment by a Hinds County grand jury. The charges relate to activities of Downtown Jackson Partners, which is a non-profit that promotes and markets the city’s core area of 66 blocks through what’s known as a “voluntary taxes” on nearby properties. Allen, a former Jackson councilman, is the non-profit’s executive president. According to the four-page indictment, he was accused of: * Taking a Downtown Jackson Partners pickup truck as his own and spending the money of the non-profit on repairs, insurance, and tag costs. * Converted Downtown Jackson Partners funds for personal credit card and cell phone bills. * Converted Downtown Jackson Partners funds for his own use: $86,000 to pay for Jackson Mayor Tony Yarber’s inauguration gala, and $40,137 to “improperly authorized donors and sponsorships.”
