This is the first time that this has happened in the history Gillom and Howell trophy history. They are awarded annually to the best college basketball players in Mississippi. The three-time Gillom winner Victoria Vivians, along with her teammates Teaira Mccowan and Blair Schaefer, are the three finalists in the Gillom Trophy. It is named after former Ole Miss basketball star Peggie GillomGranderson. The Howell Trophy, named after Mississippi State basketball legend Bailey Howell, has its finalist. They are Quindarry, Nick Weatherspoon, Cortez Edwards from Southern Miss and Quindarry. A panel of Mississippi sports journalists and broadcasters voted for the finalists. The Howell and Gillom trophy winners are selected through a second round of media voting. Fan voting is also conducted by C Spire. From Monday at 5 pm to Saturday at 5 pm, fans can vote for their favorite players at www.csopavoting.com. Twelve men received votes. Eighteen different women’s players were voted for, and all five MSU starters received support. The Howell Trophy has been won by Ole Miss players in each of the five previous seasons. Vivians is only the third winner of the C Spire Gillom Trophy.
