Although we don’t know what it would have taken for Strong to retain his job, if you can’t provide protection on additional points, you won’t be able to save your job. Texas, which had started the season with wins over Notre Dame (UTEP) and UTEP (UTEP), has now lost to California and Oklahoma State by 99 points. Next up: Oklahoma. Dick Enberg might be heard saying, “Oh my …”” It is likely that two of the top five to six college football coaching positions will be available at season’s conclusion. Maybe more.
