According to a statement posted to the Mississippi Department of Corrections’ site, Earl King Davis, 55 was declared dead on August 30, 2018 at 12:52 p.m. at Promise Hospital in Vicksburg. Mississippi Today was confirmed Davis’s death by Ladd Pulliam, Greene County coroner. Pulliam stated that Davis was transferred to Promise Hospital in Vicksburg where he remained for more than a week. According to the coroner, he died from natural causes. Davis was halfway through his 20-year sentence for manslaughter, aggravated assault and murder. According to the Department of Corrections, the autopsy will determine the manner and cause of the death. Pelicia Hall, corrections commissioner, stated in a Friday afternoon press release that she requested the assistance of both the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and the Mississippi Department of Public Safety to investigate the deaths. Hall stated that while we believe most deaths in August were due to illnesses or natural causes such as heart disease and cancer, the available information suggests otherwise. She also said that she was seeking the assistance of others outside the department to ensure transparency. Hall stated that his administration was committed to providing medical care for all people in its care.
