The world’s richest woman doubled Alcorn’s endowment with $25 million donation

The largest single gift to Mississippi News Alcorn State University was from a single donor. MacKenzie Scott (an author and philanthropist) donated $25 million to the university. The school made the announcement Tuesday. Felecia M. NAVE, Alcorn President, stated that the gift was truly transformative and that she is humbled by her generosity. This gift doubles Alcorn’s endowment, and will allow the university to expand its academic offerings. Scott announced this week that she had donated $4.1 billion to 384 organizations across all 50 states. This is just four months after donating $1.7 million to 116 organisations. According to a list she published this week, Scott also donated $4.1 billion to Mississippi Food Network and Tougaloo College. It is not clear how much these entities received. Scott, who is the ex-wife to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has a net worth in excess of $60 billion. She is also the wealthiest woman in the world.
