Scott Leary, Assistant U.S. attorney, said that these men had been in contact for many years to a jury sitting mid-afternoon Monday. Leary, in his opening statement, said that they would hear about narcotics trafficking from Jackson and eventually from California, all while they were incarcerated. They are charged with being members of the white supremacy Aryan Brothers of Mississippi and of their involvement in a methamphetamine distribution plot as well as the death of Michael Hudson, South Mississippi. While they pleaded not guilty to the charges, their co-defendants took government agreements for their guilty pleas. They may also testify in this trial which is expected to last between three and four weeks. Jurors were told by defense attorneys that the government cannot prove its claims. Joshua A. Turner, Parker’s Oxford attorney, stated that “everyone who will testify has something to lose and is an addict.” The evidence in this case will cast doubt on the elements of the crime. It starts with venue. Where is Michael Hudson? Owens is not found with a body.” Jackson’s William Andy Sumrall, representing Owens, asked the jury: “Is Frankie Owens part of the Aryan Brothers?” Sumrall said that Owens did what he needed to survive. But Owens was not in a position of authority in 2013 to have ordered the killing of Hudson. Leary stated that evidence would show evidence of a conspiracy in the Mississippi prison system to use illegal cell phones to combat meth trafficking and other gang-related activities. He stated that the first two weeks will be devoted to the two-year meth and gun trafficking investigation as well as the stabbing death at Marshall County prison of Jeremy Bailey. He said that the testimony would then be moved back to 2010 to cover the events leading up to Hudson’s murder. Leary stated that Michael Hudson was also a member of the Aryan Brotherhood. However, he made the worst decision of his life. “He bought methamphetamine from Eric Parker, but he didn’t like it so he did not pay him.” Leary claimed that Owens ordered Hudson to beat, kidnap, and then be murdered. His body was then burned over a five day fire, and dumped in South Mississippi.
