According to a post on the Biloxi Police department’s website, Officer Robert McKeithen was shot and killed in front of the Lopez-Quave Public Safety Center at around 10 p.m. Chief John Miller, the police chief, remembered McKeithen as an “unbelievably fine officer.” He offered a reward. According to the department’s online posting, McKeithen, 58 was a father of three and a husband. He planned to retire at end of year. Miller, who had previously responded to McKeithen’s calls, said that McKeithen “had a style all his own.” He seemed to be able to connect with people. It isn’t always easy to connect with people in business, but he just seemed to have a knack for connecting. Miller spoke at a press conference before the Lopez-Quave Public Safety Center, where McKeithen was shot and killed shortly after 10 p.m. Miller stated that the Gulfport Police Department would be investigating McKeithen’s death.
