Clarion Ledger: John Singleton (the Oscar-nominated screenwriter and director behind films such as “Boyz n the Hood”) has died following a stroke, the Associated Press reported Monday. He was 51. Singleton was to direct a movie on Emmett Till, who was shot and killed in Mississippi in 1955 after he allegedly sex with a white woman. Singleton’s family released a statement through his spokesperson Monday, saying that John Daniel Singleton, their beloved son, friend and father, will be taken off life support. “This was an extremely difficult decision that our family made over many days with the careful counsel from John’s doctors.”
