Eric Shelton receives top award for service project

Eric Shelton, Mississippi Today’s photojournalist, was awarded the Report for America (RFA), top honor for his project with Jackson youth. Shelton was originally an RFA Corps member and joined Mississippi Today in 2018. He taught visual storytelling workshops and photojournalism to Jackson youth at the community organization Operation U.P.W.A.R.D. The project culminated in a gallery showing the work of the students. Each Report for America corps member takes part in a service project that is usually related to youth media. This allows corps members to connect with the community in a new way and inspires future journalists.
