Mississippi Today Editor-At Large Marshall Ramsey returns to Mississippi Stories with Canopy CEO John Damon. They discuss the mental health issues facing the nation and the avenues for help. Also, how to reduce stigma around mental health. Damon has more than 25 years of experience in executive and clinical leadership. Since 2013, he has been Canopy’s Chief Executive Office. Damon is a Fellow in the fifth class of Health Innovators Fellowship, and a member the Aspen Global Leadership Network. He is also a member of the Mississippi Business Group on Health’s board. The Mississippi Business Journal named him a Top CEO. John is currently a member of the Mississippi Children’s Justice Commission. John has served on several other committees, including the Governor’s Healthcare Task Force and the Mental Health Task Force (chair), Mississippi’s Children’s Mental Health Task Force and the Mississippi Autism Advisory Committee. John has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Mississippi College. He also holds a Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Reformed Theological Seminary. He earned his doctorate of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology from Jackson State University. He completed his residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Child Psychology.
