Kavanaugh seems to have the support of two state Republican senators, Roger Wicker of Tupelo (Roger Wicker) and Cindy Hyde-Smith from Brookhaven. This is despite allegations that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted a Maryland high school student in the 1980s. Wicker and Hyde Smith indicated that they would vote for Donald Trump’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court. Wicker stated earlier this week that “nothing I have learned thus far has changed my view of Judge Kavanaugh.” He also said that Chairman Chuck Grassley (of Senate Judiciary Committee), is treating this allegation seriously. This is in a fair way for Judge Kavanaugh and the American people. “I look forward to the hearing next week with open eyes.” Wicker’s remarks came earlier in week before Christine Blasey Ford, a California researcher psychologist, said Thursday that it was not possible for her to testify Monday before the Senate committee. Wicker’s opponent, D-Bay St. Louis state rep. David Baria, said that the Senate confirmation process should be slowed down even before the Ford allegation. Baria stated that Dr. Blasey’s latest allegation must be investigated in an impartial and fair manner before the confirmation process can proceed. Dr. Ford should be treated with respect by U.S. Senate. The American people deserve all the facts.” Democrats Mike Espy and Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee agreed that the allegations were serious and troubling. The Senate must investigate the matter before it moves forward with the lifetime appointment a U.S. Supreme Court Justice.” Hyde Smith, who was appointed in interim to replace Thad Cochran, stated earlier that he found Judge Kavanaugh to be “imminently qualified to serve as Supreme Court justice, and I remain confident about his confirmation. This last-minute allegation was handled in a questionable manner. I have serious reservations about it. The Democrats knew this information months ago but chose to delay releasing it until now. The Judiciary Committee scheduled a hearing to hear the allegations. The Judiciary Committee has scheduled a hearing on the allegation. Tanner Watson, a spokesperson of state senator Chris McDaniel (R-Ellisville), said that “the left wants to be in able to falsely charge anyone they don’t like of any to shut them down… “Right-thinking Americans won’t stand by while leftprosecutors these modern-day executions. Where are the Republicans in Congress? Cindy Hyde Smith is missing. Why is the Senate sitting silently? Are they allowing President Trump’s nominee failure? Why don’t they fight? McDaniel campaign comments on Judge Kavanaugh need to be confirmed.” This comes shortly after McDaniel received criticism for his interview in which he stated, “These allegations 99 percent of all the time are just absolutely fabricated.” Phil Bryant appointed Hyde Smith to the interim Senate position. However, Bryant is also a strong supporter of Kavanaugh. The governor stated that Judge Kavanaugh was the most qualified person to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. “The Committee has devised a fair and accommodating strategy for handling recent developments. I believe that the process should proceed as fast as possible. I look forward to Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation.”
