Teachers How much would your pay increase under the Senate’s pay raise plan

Nonprofit Mississippi News Monday’s Mississippi State Senate presented its plan to raise teacher pay in this legislative session. The state’s current salary schedule will be modified to increase teacher pay. This increases teacher salaries by years of experience or certification. The proposal would increase teachers’ salaries by an average of $4700 over two years. It also restructures the pay system to ensure that they receive higher long-term salaries. Teachers would receive an average $500 increase every year, and higher increases every five years depending on their certification level. These bumps would amount to $1,325 per teacher with a bachelor’s degree, $1.425 for master’s, $1.525 for specialist, and $1.624 for a PhD. Teachers would automatically receive the higher step increases every five years, and these increases would be part of their regular salary. Teachers would also be eligible for the salary ladder after their first year. After the third year teaching, the current ladder begins. Teachers would earn an average of $37,000 per year, and $40,000. Use our calculator to see how your salary would change.
