Tony Boyd pleads guilty to shooting ex-girlfriend

Tony Boyd was sentenced in March 2020 to 23 years imprisonment with five years of suspended sentences for shooting his ex-girlfriend Kizzetta McClendon at Morton. According to Steven Kilgore (district attorney for the Eighth Circuit Court district), Boyd is eligible for parole once he has served nine years. Boyd, who was previously in prison for stabbing an innocent woman in 2010, was indicted in November 2020 by a Scott County grand jury on charges of felon in possession and felony-level domestic abuse. After being released from jail, Boyd was again charged with felony level domestic violence in September 2020. He was accused of attempting to run McClendon over in a parking lot. Boyd was bonded out and then charged with rape in connection with McClendon in March 2021. These two charges were never brought against Boyd. Kilgore stated that the plea agreement was reached with the understanding that his unindicted cases would be included in the plea. The prosecution can use the unindicted cases as leverage to get more time for indictments. The rape and second aggravated assault cases are closed. Kilgore stated that the entire process was completed with Ms. McClendon’s input and consent. McClendon stated that while it is comforting to know Boyd will not be released immediately and she will not be hurt again, she would prefer for the cases to be treated separately. She said that Boyd tried to kill two people, but the grace of God saved them both.
