Walker, who was a Heisman Trophy winner at Georgia, is now a businessman as well as an author. Walker was inducted into College Football Hall of Fame in 1999. Maholm is a native of Holly Springs and a Hattiesburg resident who is not unfamiliar with the game. He won the Holly Springs Country Club championship as a teenager. He was a three-year Mississippi State letterman and a consensus All-American for 2003. The Pittsburgh Pirates selected him in the eighth round of the draft. Maholm pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs in the majors. Walker is the owner and operator of Savannah-based Renaissance Man International. He is also involved in Herschel’s Famous 34 which sells prepared chicken to restaurants. Walker gives motivational speeches to schools and other events all over the country. Maholm has made a significant contribution to the communities he lives in through charity contributions and volunteerism. The Mississippi’s only stop on the PGA Tour is the 49th Sanderson Farms Championship. It will conclude its 72-hole tournament Sunday, October 30.
