Hugh Freeze was the Ole Miss football coach. He defeated giants, knocking off Alabama twice and led the team to its first Sugar Bowl since 1946. Freeze quit in 2017, amid an NCAA investigation. He said, “I’m humbled,” to an audience of more than 8,000 students and staffers. Although the Flames didn’t have a football coach at that time, the controversial university president saw potential in flawed but dynamic individuals — especially when they helped him advance his vision for the school. …… Jerry Falwell Sr. was the evangelist that founded the school.
