Carey Wright, the state superintendent of education, told Board of Education members that the search continues for a new superintendent to oversee state Achievement School District. The state education department has interviewed several candidates and will re-post this job to generate more interest. The Achievement School District Task Force had recommended Noxubee County, Humphreys County schools districts as potential candidates in October 2017. However, the December meeting of the education board made a decision to postpone the decision until a new superintendent was in place. On Thursday, the board rescheduled that decision. According to a state law, the district is scheduled to start operations in the 2018-19 school years. A school district can be eligible for placement in several ways. A district is eligible if it receives an F accountability rating for at least two consecutive years or twice in a row. Eligible districts have at least 50 percent of their schools rated F, or 50 percent of the students in the school district attending an F school.
